From 1972 until 1990, Jay Evans was a partner in J&M Cattle Company, a cow/calf and replacement heifer, stocker operation operating in Central and South Texas.
From 1982 until 1990, Jay served as Chairman of the Board and CEO of J.C. Evans Construction Company. The company was primarily engaged in the development, project management and construction of commercial buildings, underground utilities, roads and all phases of heavy equipment excavation. In 1990 J.C. Evans was sold to the employees through an Employee Stock Option Plan.
In 1990 Jay became an employee of the King Ranch Inc., in Kingsville, Texas, where he served as area cattle manager and reported to the vice president of agribusiness.

His responsibilities included the drought-induced cow/calf and replacement heifer operation located on leased properties in Texas and Oklahoma and the management of the stocker program, including purchasing and marketing.
Additionally, Jay worked with senior management and the Board of Directors on special projects, including the Cannonade Ranch purchase, and served on the management team that developed an integrated plan for wildlife, brush management, grazing of livestock and the development of natural resources.
Since 2001, Jay has served as President of Jay Evans Company, Ltd., a resource and land management company, providing management and consulting for ranching and wildlife operations, as well as representing buyers and sellers with real estate transactions. As a part of the resource and land management division, Jay Evans Company represents landowners with oil & gas surface use issues, pipeline easements and reclamation.
Jay Evans serves as president and general manager for JSB Ranches, a diversified cattle operation located on the south plains and the western panhandle.
